What to do when You’re drowning {Day 5 of The Trust Experience}

Have you ever felt like you were drowning? Maybe not physically, but emotionally or spiritually?

Drowning victims are usually in a state of panic. I’ve heard that sometimes a drowning person thrashes about so much that trying to rescue him or her places the rescuer at risk of drowning as well. The best thing for a drowning person to do is to be still so the rescuer can carry the victim to safety.

We are on Day 5 of The Trust Experience and if you’ve ever felt completely overwhelmed, then today is for you. Keep reading!

Have you ever felt like you were drowning? Maybe not physically, but emotionally or spiritually? A drowning victim is often panicked, but the best thing he or she...

Day Five

1. The Bread:  Read John 3:1-21

2. The Devo: Read day five in Trust Without Borders. Jot down key concepts that jump out at you.

3. The Plunge:  Is there a sin in your life that is overwhelming you? Is there a circumstance that keeps taking you under? What area(s) are you struggling and panicked about? What is it that causes angst, anxiety, and feelings of being overwhelmed?

Remember, a drowning person must trust the person who is performing the rescue.

Hebrews 11:6 says the essence of faith is trusting God to be who He says He is and believing He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. {See yesterday’s post if you haven’t done it yet.} Re-read John 3:16-17 and then read Romans 8:32. Jesus came not to condemn us but to rescue us. He is your rescuer! And if God gave up His own Son (!) on our behalf, He is surely willing to graciously give us all things for our benefit.

Drowner, today, let go of trying to survive. When you feel the panic rising within you, stop the panic response and be still. Drop to your knees as a physical demonstration of trust in the Savior to rescue you and bring you to safety. Entrust yourself and your circumstance into your Shepherd’s hands, knowing that “whoever believes in Him will not perish.”

Believe it. You will not perish. Your rescuer is mighty to save.

  1. In this journey with my Mother, there are moments of panic and angst. My controller personality wants to take over. Today’s devo was a reminder to me to trust the One who is rescuing her….and me. Thank you.
