What one word comes to mind when you think of the Proverbs 31 woman?
How about wise?
A few years ago I did a personal study on the Proverbs 31 woman and ever since, the word that comes to mind when I think of her is confident.
One of the main reasons this woman is noble and praise worthy is because she’s confident.
She knows her worth and the value of her endeavors. She understands her work matters. She knows her tongue can impact and significantly influence others. She’s assured of her purpose and meaningful contribution in the lives of others. She believes in the merit of her character. And her attitudes and actions all reflect her beliefs about herself.
A woman of humble confidence with nothing to prove is remarkably magnetic.
Now. This might sound strange, but have you noticed that confident women seem to dress the part? I’m not saying they never wear sweats or pull their hair back but most confident women I know present themselves in a way that says, “I believe I’m valuable.”
Research shows the way we dress both affects and reflects the way we feel about ourselves, our mood, and the way we interact with others. It also affects how others perceive us (which is why some of us are more comfortable in sweats- we are uncomfortable with others seeing us as valuable. If that’s you, this email is especially for you and I encourage you to study the life of the Proverbs 31 woman. It will bless you!)
Something as “simple” as our clothing choices can reflect deep-seated beliefs that we need to allow God to address in our journey to wholeness.
So how does a confident, noble woman dress?
Well, Proverbs 31:22 says, “She is clothed in fine linen and purple.”
In other words, she looks the part. She dresses in accordance with what she believes to be true about herself… and her daily actions reflect those beliefs as well.
Author and Professor Karen J. Pine writes, “When we put on a piece of clothing we cannot help but adopt some of the characteristics associated with it, even if we are unaware of it.”
So my question for you today is this: What does your clothing choice say about your beliefs? Your self-confidence?
What does the way you dress communicate to the world around you?
Truth is, one of the easiest, most practical ways to grow in confidence is to change what we wear!!
No, we don’t need to go out and run up a credit card bill for a bunch of clothes we can’t afford nor do we need to use clothing/accessories to mask deeper issues or gain the approval of people; but some of us need to value ourselves enough to communicate our worth in the way we dress.
Yes sista, I’m talking to you!
