It’s almost inevitable – we celebrate Thanksgiving, and suddenly, the “gimmes” hit. That time of sharing what we’re thankful for seems so long ago as we’re bombarded by ads showing us all the things we simply must have. It can be very difficult to teach kids gratitude when we’re overwhelmed with advertisements and marketing, particularly at this time of the year. Melissa’s post on teaching thankfulness and gratefulness to our children really grabbed my attention.
In her post, Melissa shares six skills that we can teach our children to foster thankfulness and gratefulness in their lives. Her list is very practical – these are skills that we would want our children to have anyway. I appreciate how she weaves in Scripture with her practical suggestions because God’s Word has a lot to say about raising our children.
She also shares the truth that much of the entitlement we see in children comes from parents. Ouch! But if we aren’t filling their hearts with truth – with God’s truth – that leaves the door open for worldly influences to creep in, doesn’t it?
If you have children in your life and you are looking ahead at a long month of the “gimmes” head over to Melissa’s post to read her encouragement!
