The Secret to Withstanding Hard Times

Perhaps you know who Corrie Ten Boom was and the story of her family being arrested by the Nazi’s.

What strikes me about The Ten Boom family is how vital Scripture memory was and how heavily they relied on scriptures they’d memorized during their imprisonment. Corrie writes,

“When I was in the concentration camp, a camp where only twenty percent of the women came out alive, we tried to cheer each other up by saying, “Nothing could be any worse than today.” But we would find the next day was even worse.

During this time a Bible verse that I had committed to memory gave me great hope and joy. “If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you; on their part evil is spoken of, but on your part He is glorified.” (I Peter 3:14) I found myself saying, “Hallelujah! Because I am suffering, Jesus is glorified!””

Scripture memory is so important! These cards will help you hide God's word in your heart.

Having scripture stored in her heart allowed Corrie to thrive and even rejoice in a very bleak and difficult time. Likewise, scripture stored in our memory banks is a lamp to our feet, a rock for our feet, and a shelter in the storm.

I’m certain we all agree on how important scripture memory is. But just knowing something is important isn’t enough, is it? We need a plan to actually DO it.

One of my missions as a blogger is to provide actionable resources for deepening your walk with Christ. I am passionate about helping this community take action. When Carlie Kercheval emailed me a few months ago about a project she was working on to actually help women memorize scripture, I jumped at the chance to share it with you, my reader.

As I read through Carlie’s manuscript, I realized how simple and methodical her approach is– simply memorize one scripture a week– and how life transformational that simple practice can be.

Y’all. I had a news flash. We don’t have to memorize entire books of the Bible for the Bible to transform us. Maybe that’s a duh for everyone else, but it was so freeing for me to remember.

  1. I’m blessed to read this, and I was challenged to memorized a verse per week.

In times of discouragement and loneliness my memory verse is my strength. I can dwell on His word and it changes the way I see things.
Again, thank you for being an instrument of God to remind me.

    God bless your ministry.
