Parenting takes us through many transitional stages and gives us a tremendous opportunity for growth in our own lives. I know we all live with the thought of the children growing up someday, and moving on to college or to begin their adult life. As my own children grow older, I know that “someday” is going to be here sooner rather than later. That’s why I was so thankful to see Betsy’s post this week, where she bravely shared her story of recovering joy in an empty nest.
Betsy and her husband have launched both of their children into their adult lives. She candidly shares her feelings during this transition time, but also has such wisdom in how to work to reclaim joy through this transitional time.
While the foundation for this post uses a familiar and beautiful passage of Scripture, Betsy encourages us to start to reclaim joy by declaring that our present season is beautiful. Wow! Whether you are launching children into adulthood, or transitioning in a different manner in your own life, this is a powerful starting point.
The steps to reclaiming joy are practical and can be used in any stage of life. I appreciate, though, that Betsy speaks specifically to the empty nest, though, as that is sure to be a big transition for so many of us. She shares the importance of acknowledging your feelings, but also encourages us to begin to take action and look for new areas where we can spend our time.
I’d encourage you to read Betsy’s post, even if you aren’t working through an empty nest. Her focus on the Scripture is beautiful and gives us a good opportunity to reflect on God’s goodness in carrying us through many transitions and changes in our lives.
