Favorite Books & Day 8 of The Trust Experience

Hello Loft friends!

This week’s topic is Favorite Books and I love talking books! If you are here just for the Trust Experience, by all means go ahead and scroll to the second part of this post but if you are a book lover, well, pull up a chair and let’s chat.

I had to laugh at Leah and her color-coded book shelves because I so get that! What can we say, we are nerds.

So for Ren’s benefit (love that girl!), I will say in all honestly, that the Bible is my all time favorite book. The Word is LIFE. It is the living, breathing, active Word of God that does not return void and I know I don’t have to tell you how life changing it is.

My first book then, is this version of The One Year Bible. There’s just something special about reading through the Bible in a year. If you haven’t done it yet, whatcha waiting for? Grab a copy and start today!

Outside of the Bible, I have some other favorites. And yes, I’m rubbing my hands together in glee to share these :)

The Heavenly Man: The Remarkable True Story of Chinese Christian Brother Yun– This book is absolutely life changing. Challenging, convicting, encouraging, just amazing.

Transforming Grace: Living Confidently in God’s Unfailing Love– This book was balm to my soul. It exposed the outrageous truth of God’s grace to me in ways I had never understood before and truly set me on a different trajectory in my faith.

Vertical Church: What Every Heart Longs for. What Every Church Can Be.-Okay, so I read stuff on church planting. But this book… this book is really a must read for anyone who goes to church period. James MacDonald talks about our universal desire to behold the glory of God. He then goes on to paint a high view of God that leaves you on your knees in worship of our great God. I worshiped my way through this book!

Redeeming Love– I’m not a huge fan of fiction, but I love me some Francine Rivers. I thoroughly enjoyed The Mark of the Lion series as well. You just can’t go wrong with Francine.

Well there are a ton of others that I could share, but I will stop with these. We’ll have to do a kid’s book edition of this sometime because I’ve got a list of those too! Be sure to check out the other Lofters and their favorite books!

Now it’s time for Day 8 in The Trust Experience:

31 days of trust without borders

Day 8

1. The Bread- Read John 4

2. The Devo- Read Day 8 in Trust Without Borders: A 40-Day Devotional Journey to Deepen, Strengthen, and Stretch Your Faith in God

3. The Plunge- Today you read about how our past or lineage can taunt us. Our generational baggage can rob us of hope and trust in God for something bigger, something better. Yet I Peter 1:18-19 assures us that we have been redeemed from the empty way of life handed down from our ancestors.

Take a few minutes now to make that promise personal. What empty ways were handed down to you? Trust Him that you have you been redeemed from these things.

In John 4, Jesus asked the least likely person to do something for Him. When the woman responded incredulously, Jesus turned the focus back to Himself. “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water.”

Do you see the point here? The gift of God is redemption. Acceptance. Forgiveness. It doesn’t matter your past, your ancestral lines, the generational sins and baggage you come from, the gift of God surpasses all of it. If we understand God to be who He really is, we will ASK Him for His good gifts!

For your plunge today, spend some time asking God for His good gifts based on the promises in today’s reading. Ask for specific things, knowing that He can, in wisdom, say no but knowing He delights to say yes.

  1. I’m thrilled that you liked my color coded bookshelves! I decided to do the shelves a day or so before I was scheduled to feed 50 people at my home. I desperately needed to be cooking, but all I could think about was getting those books organized. I had books laying all over my office floor, so once I started it had to get done. “Redeeming Love”……YES!! Without a doubt one of my favs. I had so many more I wanted to list, but just ran out of time. I really want to check out several of your suggestions!!

  2. Arabah, your books sound like good ones. Especially The Heavenly Man. I love a good biography or testimonial. Especially those that inspire me to go higher with Christ!

  3. I’m finally making my way back to read your post and YAY I made the mentions- LOL! I am also not a huge fan of fiction books. . . one of these times you are going to have to do “movies” for The Loft- I’m not one who would choose reading in down time- but I am a voracious consumer of tv/movies. . . I know, I know that’s like admitting you prefer boxed mac-n-cheese home made. . . but there you have it just the same ;)
