As warmer weather approaches, our thoughts to get-togethers with friends and family, or perhaps barbecues with our small group or Sunday school class. It’s so fun to think about spending time with friends and watching our kids play together. But what if you struggle with imperfections – the house is messy, or the food isn’t perfect? Those things can really be a roadblock to spending time together. How can we extend hospitality when life is imperfect?
Stacey shared in her post about a friend who hosted several young girls and their mothers as they worked to create a fun craft, and to enjoy time together. She shared many welcoming traits that her friend had, and how much fun everyone had together. However, as the girls worked on their craft, the house got covered in the white powder they were using. While Stacey described it as a “beautiful mess”, it was still a mess.
It struck me, though, that she shared that her friend’s house wasn’t perfectly clean. It was lived in, with dishes in the sink, and piles laying around. But the lesson that Stacey gained from this experience was that “if we wait for everything to be perfect, we will never open our hearts or homes to others.”
That’s so true, isn’t it?
Stacey shares 10 practical ways that we can extend hospitality, even if our homes or lives are imperfect. She’s got some wonderful ideas, and I hope you’re able to find one that you can implement soon. Numbers 2 and 7 seem like they could work very easily!
I’d love to hear your ideas for how you extend hospitality without worrying about any imperfections!
