How do you feel when you hear the word ‘surrender’? Does it stir up a certain feeling in your stomach? Do you start to worry just a little, wondering if you’re going to be asked to give something up? I think those are all some natural reactions that we might feel in response to the word ‘surrender’, so I was interested to see what Kela had to share about surrender in her post called Surrender Doesn’t Have to Look Like Giving Up.
Kela presented the idea that sometimes surrender is actually more about moving forward, than about giving up. Sometimes God is calling us to something different, or to a new level in our current calling, but moving in that way may require us to surrender something. Psalm 37 has a wonderful reminder of what we’re to do while we’re waiting on God’s timing.
What a beautiful thought – that sometimes God asks a little of us, but is prepared to give us so much more in return. That step of faith, giving up what we hold dear, can be quite a challenge. If we can keep in mind, though, that we don’t know what God has on the other side, and that He has always been faithful, it can encourage us to surrender in order to move forward!
I appreciate these few thoughts near the end of her post:
“I want to do surrender God’s way.
Living a surrendered life is a giving life. Surrender doesn’t have to look like giving up. It can look like pressing in.”
