Get ready to Command Your Morning Biblically! Don't let your day happen to you, take charge and get it started the right way.

What Does It Mean To Command Your Morning?

Commanding your morning with scripture is a simple, yet very powerful spiritual technique that will allow you to walk in greater authority over your day.

It helps to set the tone for the day and activates God’s Word in your life.

Commanding your morning isn’t just about praying specific prayers. It’s actually speaking and prophesying over your day.

Some people may call this their daily confessions, declarations, or affirmations. Either way, they are using Bible verses to command their morning.

Hebrew Definition

The word command means to give an authoritative order.

The Hebrew word for command is tsavah. It is used 494 times in the Old Testament.

Tsavah means to:

  • constitute
  • enjoin
  • appoint
  • send a messenger
  • give a charge
  • command
  • put or set in order

How God Commands The Day

In Psalm 33:8-9, it reads:

8 Let all the earth fear the Lord;
Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.

9 For He spoke, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood fast.

We transliterate that word ‘command’ in this passage of scripture to mean, God has constituted or put/set the world in order and it stood fast or actually happened.

In Psalm 42:8, it reads:

The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime,
And in the night His song shall be with me—
A prayer to the God of my life.

We transliterate that word ‘command’ in this passage of scripture to mean, God appointed His lovingkindness to show up in the daytime.

God literally commands the morning to put or set in order His lovingkindness to be on full display!

As children of God, who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we have spiritual authority granted to us by the Lord to give authoritative, spiritual, and biblical orders about our lives and those around us.

We can, in fact, biblically command our morning with scripture to support us doing so.

Let’s talk more about the spiritual authority granted to us to command our morning.

Is Commanding Your Morning Biblical?

That’s a great question! So let’s go straight to the Word of God and see what it has to say about this:

We are told in John 14:12 – “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.”

Jesus is telling us that will we do what He has done…and even greater things!

So at a minimum, we can do all that Jesus did while walking this earth.

Let’s find out exactly what Jesus did, as it relates to commanding things (giving spiritual orders):

  • Jesus spoke to the Leper saying “be cleansed” and he was cleansed (Luke 8:1-4)
  • The Centurion Man asked Jesus to simply “speak a word” to heal his servant (Luke 8:5-13)
  • Jesus spoke to the winds and the sea and the storm calmed down (Luke 8:23-27)

And this is just to name but a few instances where Jesus spoke or commanded things to happen and they did.

We, too, can command (give authoritative, spiritual, and biblical orders) over our morning and lives!

In The Bible

Let’s look at other scriptures about the power of our words to command our morning.

Job 22:28 says:

You will also declare a thing,
And it will be established for you;
So light will shine on your ways.”

In this full passage of scripture, we see where Job is being called out for some errors in his ways.

His friend, Eliphaz, tells Job what he must do to be fully restored starting in verse 21. Then once he has done those things and God restores Job, he will be able to “declare a thing and it will be established.”

We can do the same.

If we desire for God’s light to shine upon our ways, we must first be in right standing with Him then, we can command our morning by declaring a thing and it will be established.

(And yes, all that we are declaring must be in line with God’s will and truth for our lives.)

Proverbs 18:21 says:

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit.”

This Bible verse about commanding your morning is pretty straightforward.

The words that come out of our mouths and off our tongues bear fruit. That fruit is life or death.

We get to choose how we will use our words every single day. Our tongue has the power to release life into our day, by simply commanding our morning.

Matthew 12:36-37 says:

“But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Here, Jesus is speaking about a tree being known by its fruit.

Jesus makes a statement in verse 34 where He says, “for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” He’s making a correlation about the condition of our hearts being revealed through the words that come out of our mouths.

We must be fully aware that we are in fact being judged by our words. We will either be found justified or condemned.

So let’s get our heart right with the Lord and then use our words to command our morning with scripture that we might be found justified before the Lord!

  • Romans 4:17
