Best Bible Verse for the Morning

Have you ever wondered if there are Bible verses suited just for the beginning of a new day? In our morning scripture series, we’re discussing favorite passages to pray and today, my friend Marva is here to share about one of the best Bible passages for the morning.

I marvel at how my prayer times have morphed and changed over the years. As a little girl in a God-fearing home, I practiced a mix of heartfelt prayers (no doubt inspired by my mother’s example) and the rote prayers I learned in Sunday School.

Many years later and thousands of miles from home, my college prayers were frankly bland and obligatory. I knew God was there, but my prayers were somewhere between the usual thanksgiving prayers and ‘Lord, please forgive me’. There’s something about being single in New York that will influence you in ways unimaginable.

But thankfully, it was also in New York that my life took a turn for the better. Choosing for the very first time to make Jesus lord of my life, my prayers became an anchor for my faith, seeing me through some of the proverbial lowest lows and highest highs. One of my favorite passages to pray in the morning became Psalm 91.

Now, fast forward nearly twenty-five years, and my time with God continues to be my favorite part of my day. This of course includes incorporating some of those favorite Bible verses for a great morning with God. The Best Bible Verse in the Morning

Best Bible Verse in the Morning

For me, mornings are so much better with Jesus.

I truly look forward to my time with God very early in the morning – just me, my Bible and coffee. In those quiet moments when the world and my family are still fast asleep, I find solace and new hope with the best Bible verse for the morning.

But as I’m sure you’ve seen for yourself, not every morning is the same.

Some mornings feel like a wild, mad rush to get to the next urgent item on my to-do list. Others are a blur of ‘what to fix for school lunch’ amidst remorse for having stayed up way too late.

I must admit on those mornings I feel a tinge of guilt and annoyance. Guilt at feeling like I’ve let God down and annoyance at myself for managing my time so poorly and making unwise choices.

Neither emotion is healthy or helpful.

When I get to that place, I’m reminded of a favorite verse, this best Bible verse in the morning, that spoke to me in one of the most challenging periods of my life. A time when life looked as far from perfect as it could ever be.  Click here to subscribe

Where my help comes from

It was during one of those dark days following Hurricane Irma. I found myself grappling to make sense of what had just happened and wondering how our lives got turned upside down in the blink of an eye. The devastation to our home, island and country, left us in a place of desperation.

One morning I rose early and stepped onto our still-intact porch overlooking the now brown hills below. Through silent tears, I surveyed the surrounding hillsides which were dotted with debris. What looked like the fallout from a bomb was actually the scattered pieces of my home, and those of our neighbors. Once flourishing trees were now sad sticks growing out of the ground which could no longer house the birds. Yet somehow the birds still sung.

And amazingly, the sun still rose that morning as it had done the day before. And the day before that.

You see, God’s faithfulness didn’t change, even when my circumstances did.

He was still taking care of the birds and meeting their needs. And He was doing the same for me. Even when I didn’t know how.

The words of Psalm 121 became my new mantra.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2 NIV

That was two and a half years ago and it is still for me the best Bible verse for the morning

God is faithful

Since then the trees have grown back an abundant green, our home has long been repaired and my country is well on the road to full recovery. Not surprisingly, the birds still sing their sweet morning songs.

And God continues to show up and meet my needs. Every. single. day.

In fact, He’d always been there. He was there in my early days as a young girl when I sought to know Him, and He was there in my rebellious college years. He’s been there through all my ups and downs, no matter how big or small.

So, on mornings when my world seems imperfect, I remember the words of Psalm 121.

God invites me to look to Him. Amidst the rush, the busyness and the distractions, He longs to meet me in that place where He provides for my needs and offers me fresh grace.

An Invitation

Maybe the help you need is in the form of comfort, hope or healing. Perhaps it’s forgiveness or focus or freedom from fear. Whatever your needs are I invite you to meet God in the morning with this best Bible verse for the morning. Look to Him – to that place where your help comes from.

Regardless of what season you’re in or what’s going on in your world, Psalm 121 says the Maker of heaven and earth longs to be your shelter, protector and provider.  Click here to subscribe

He’s not looking for perfection, He’s just looking for your presence.

He is faithful.

Whatever your circumstances you’ll find Him waiting for you each morning.
