Seeing Glory. He’s got this. {Day 22}

I don’t know about you, but I daydream about big, glorious things. Like when a mass of people fall under conviction and come to Christ. Or when God rumbles from heaven and shows off and sends fire from heaven. Or when I stand up and start in weakness but finish in power.

Things like that.

If I’m completely honest, I tend to think that if God is with me, it will always be that way: big, glorious, dramatic.

But I have to deliberately remind myself that isn’t true. Sometimes it IS that way…but many times it isn’t. Jesus came small, vulnerable, and lay down in the animal’s food trough. Small is okay.

Messy is okay.

And just because the wow factor doesn’t register on anyone’s measuring stick doesn’t mean it isn’t a really. big. deal.

If you are like me today, hungering to see God’s glory in a big way, read on because today we are trusting Him for glory.

31 days of trust without borders

Day 22

1. The Bread: Read John 13:1-21

2. The Devo: Read Day 22 in Trust Without Borders

3. The Plunge: When I was little, I would sometimes go outside and stand up on a tree stump and “preach.” Of course I would never call it preaching, but that’s what it was. Some glorious truth burned in my heart and I had to express the wonder of God somehow, so I’d just let it all out in the most passionate way I knew.

On a tree stump. With no one around.

I didn’t mind.

I believe passion stems from a desire to see glory, to behold the truly glorious…God’s glory.

But passion is a funny thing. It gets harder and harder to express when we continually pour into something and never see a return for those efforts. Or worse, when the only return we get is the nay-saying of others.

Passion dies when we quit believing Glory is possible.

Our passion and motivation to care for our family dies when we stop believing God’s glory can show up there. Folks in ministry stop taking risks and stop living selflessly when they stop believing God really can show up and show off and glory can invade their ministry.

It doesn’t matter what you are doing today, when you lose your vision for Glory in it, you lose. Period.

That’s why today’s devotional is so timely for me. Because yesterday I poured everything I had into sharing about Nicolae. I mean, just everything.  I gave it all I had. Furthermore, my kids… my precious, bright-eyed kids… are believing God is going to do a miracle for this boy.

And y’all, when I look at our goal of $25,000 I pray, “Lord, what is this going to do to my kid’s faith if we don’t make it? What passion and faith will die in them if this is a big flop? When we’ve told them You care about the orphan and You answer our prayers and You defend those who are defenseless? If we have to say, “I’m sorry, we don’t have enough for Nicolae to make his trip?'”

But then in today’s devotional, Jesus told Martha (John 11:40), “If you believe, you will see the glory of God.”

And according to this verse, He had told her that previously. So at least twice, Jesus, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, told Martha that if only she would believe, she would see the glory of God. Oh my faith is so weak! I still have so much to learn about the ways of God!

Today, I am choosing to believe simply this: we will see the glory of God, and Nicolae and the orphans he lives with will see it too.  I am trusting God to see Glory, in ways I can’t fathom or predict.

How about you? In what area do you need to see Glory today? In what ways is your heart longing for God’s majesty to be revealed? How does your passion need to be rekindled? It all goes back to trust. She who believes WILL see the glory of God.

That’s Book.

Today, take those raw longings and passions and desires of your heart to the Lord and commit each one to Him in trust, believing that He will allow you to see His glory.

Then let’s not be surprised when it happens :)

See you tomorrow, my friends.
