5 Reasons Why You Should Start a Blog in 2020

If you’re wondering, “should I start a blog” or  “is blogging dead” this post is for you. I’ll share why blogging is still a good idea, as well as show you the absolute best way to start a blog quickly.

Years ago, I literally started a blog on a whim. I had no idea how blogging would impact my life and the blessings I would receive as a result.

Fast forward to 2020 and many (many!) things have changed in blogging. Some say blogging in 2020 is dead. I disagree. Sure,  you can’t do the same things I did ten years ago, but blogging is alive and well, so if you’re wondering, “Do I need a blog?” the answer is yes, and here is why I think you should start a blog TODAY.

And yes, I’m obviously biased because this is, in fact, a blog post. :)

5 Reasons Why You Should Start a Blog in 2020

  1. Blogging helps you develop a creative writing habit

Recent studies show that just 15-20 minutes of creative writing a day for three straight days is proven to improve your mood. So not only does creative writing help our brains process information, it literally makes us feel better. Is blogging worth it? Absolutely! Who doesn’t need that? A blog is a great way to organize and record your writing, cultivate a writing habit, and share your work with others… or keep it to yourself. You pick.

  2. Blogging is a way to make money

I never intended to monetize my blog when I first started way back when. But as my blog grew, so did my blogging expenses. I knew I needed a way to cover those costs if I were to continue blogging.  After lots of thought, prayer, and discussion with my husband, I enrolled in my very first blog training in 2014. In that training, I learned from my blogging mentor, Ruth Soukup, how to create digital products.

Within 3 months, I had created my very first digital product and in just a few days time, that product brought in around $3,000. Blogging has allowed my creativity to flourish and has supported my family in the process. I’m so thankful!

  3. Blogging is a way to write a book

Studies show that up to 85% of us want to write a book. Sadly, most of us never will. But have you considered that blogging is an easy way to write your book? That’s right, you can totally blog your book! Writing a thousand or so words at a time is a sure-fire way to get a book finished. That’s exactly what I did for my book here.

  4. Blogging  allows you to communicate & connect online

Let’s face it, we live in the digital age where relationships are easier found online than they are in real life. I’m not advocating that necessarily, just stating the way things are. While social media is a great way to keep up with friends and family, there are benefits of personal blogging. A blog allows you to meet new people who share your same values, document your thoughts or life, and share more deeply. I’ve made incredible friends online because of blogging and had the privilege of meeting other bloggers and writers such as Ruth Soukup and Ann Voskamp.

  5. Blogging will grow you as a person.

I saved the best reason for last. Being a blogger has stretched me in ways unimaginable. From persevering through seasons when I wanted to quit, to not having enough money to pay bills and putting on my creative blogging hat for an answer, to dealing with hate mail, blogging has pushed me to be a better person.

I’ve grown because of the wonderful relationships I’ve made online and the bloggers I’ve had the joy of rubbing shoulders with. Blogging has forced me to find expression to deep work God has done in my life. It’s held me to a higher standard than I otherwise might have held myself to.

Blogging has been an absolute blessing in my life.

I know it can be in yours too.

Now, let’s talk about blogging mistakes for a sec, shall we? Because truth is, knowing what NOT to do is just as important as knowing what TO do. To help navigate the changing terrain, I rely on others within the blogging community to share up-to-date information.

  1. I’ve been meaning to start a blog for some time now and thanks to your post I went ahead and started. To be honest I really don’t know where I’m going with this but I’ve given it all to God, with a prayer that it is all for his Glory. I just posted my first post and I would really appreciate it if you checked it out, that’s if you get the time. Thank you for giving me that last kick I needed to get started.

  2. Hi there
I have been blogging for a while and loving it. I found on a pinterest pin that might be dated, that you had your own course, besides EBA, that included connection with Christian Bloggers. Is that still around? Would hate to see that disappear.

  3. I am loving writing a blog. It’s allowing me to get my thoughts on paper and really give them to God. I called it Definition through faith as I am learning to be more and more faithful to God and everyone around me.

It’s only very new so I am still working through actually making the website mine.
