10 Easy Ways to Pray All Day

Have you ever wondered if “praying without ceasing” is really possible? Today my friend Melanie shares ten simple but practical ways we can incorporate prayer into our daily routines.  It’s an honor to hear from this wise friend…

It’s that thing that we all want to do more OF but never seem to get TO.

It’s that discipline that we so desire to have in our lives; however, most of us have really wimpy prayer lives.

Most Christians I know don’t consider themselves to be mighty prayer warriors.

Yes, scripture tells us to, “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17, NKJV)

The New Living Translation of this verse suggests that we, “Never stop praying.”

~ Is this possible?

~ Can we really pray without stopping?

~ Is there really a way to pray all day?

Absolutely!

In fact, I’d like to share with you 10 Ways to Pray All Day!

10 Easy Ways to Pray All Day

As a child, I was taught that all prayer involved a bowed head, a quiet posture, closed eyes, and folded hands.

As an adult, I’m so thankful that we can pray in any place, position, posture, or situation.

There is NO limitation on prayer – except not doing it!

Here are 10 Easy Ways to Start Praying All Day:

One – Say “Good Morning” to the Lord.

  • Acknowledge Him as you begin your day.
  • Look toward heaven and speak to Him.
  • Spend a few moments at the first of your day in the Word.
  • Talk to Him as you are getting dressed, driving carpool, or driving to work.

Two – Share your needs throughout the day as they arise.

  • Make your petitions know to the Lord throughout the day.
  • As needs arise, pray.
  • As you need wisdom, ask for it.
  • As you are thinking over problems, present them to God and ask for His help.

Three – Thank Him all day long.

  • How has He been sweet to you?
  • What has He done for you?
  • What are 10 things you could stop and thank Him for right now?
  • You can thank Him for sunshine, rain, life, breath, a car to drive, a place to live, food to eat, friends, a job, children, grandchildren, and so much more.

Four – Offer sincere praise to Him for His character.

  • Take time to consider how awesome He is.
  • Go through the alphabet and thank Him for one of His traits that starts with each letter. A-Awesome, B-Bountiful, C-Compassionate.
  • Look around you and praise God for His creation.

Five – Repent as the Spirit convicts you.

  • Agree with God as He puts some sin on your heart.
  • Keep short accounts with Him.
  • Make things right with others as needed as well.
  • Check in with Him often and ask Him if there is anything you need to confess.
  • Think of it as keeping things right and reconciled.

Six – Make appeals to the Lord.

  • Just as a lawyer would appeal to a judge, you can appeal to God.
  • Discuss your concerns and frustrations with Him.
  • Talk things over with Him just as you would talk to a close friend.
  • Express your deepest hurts, needs, desires, passions, and wishes to the Lord. Share your heart with Him.

Philippians 4:6 encourages us to, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;”

  3. I have prayer on my radar these days. Heard a message about it two weeks ago, and now blog posts on prayer keep cropping up. I know God is calling me. Thanks for these great, easy ideas. Matter of fact, down to earth, practical. We spiritualize prayer way too much. That’s when it seems so hard.

  4. Love these ideas to keep prayer going all day long. Think about all the conversations running through your head all day – inviting and including God in those conversations is another way to stay rooted in prayer throughout the day.

  5. I have incorporated a lot of these into my daily rountine. I do remember doing the one where you recall the characteristics of God from A to Z. I have done that often when its hard to get to sleep.

  6. Ephesians 6:18 (NIV) says to “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Praying without ceasing has been on my mind a lot lately so I set an alarm on my phone to beep every hour. I know it might sound silly but if I don’t have anything specific to pray with God about (every hour) then I prayer for all Christians everywhere. Great Post.

  7. I love this! I struggle to keep my thoughts focused on God and was just reading Ephesians 6:18 this morning- “Pray at all times in the Spirit on all occasions with all sorts of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” I had asked God to help me learn how to do this and now I am seeing what you have posted. An answer to my prayer! Thank you!
