You guys blew me away with all your guesses last week about where we were! Surprisingly, no one guessed where we were in the comments! But your guesses made me think of these cities… including Paris… and about how our time on earth is short.
One of the scriptures I came across several times this week is Psalm 84:5-7, which says,
“Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage…They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.”
We are pilgrims on this earth. Not vacationers. And as Frances writes,
“Sometimes life’s circumstances move us out of our comfort zone and thrust us onto a pilgrimage. Just when we think we have it figured out, we face uninvited loss, unmet expectations, disappointment or pain. God doesn’t fit in our box anymore, and we must journey if we want to continue in relationship with him. We’re invited on an unexpected pilgrimage.”
I don’t know about you, but I’ve experienced a lot of “unexpected” recently. Instead of seeing it as an intrusion to my best laid plans, I can see it as an invitation. We are invited to pilgrim closer to the heart of God.
That’s an invitation I’m up for. How about you?
If you are being prompted into a deeper (perhaps unsettling) walk with the Lord, may I recommend Frances’s pilgrimage post? I was greatly encouraged by her wise words.
