8 Scripture Promises For When You Have Nothing Left to Give

I wake up plumb exhausted…however that’s possible…and tell Jackson so.

He reaches for my hand under the covers, a bit of connection before the day rushes upon us.

“It’s not just body-tired,” I tell him. “It’s heart-tired. I feel soul weary and don’t want to do anything but lay in this bed.”

He rubs my arm before springing out of bed with parting instructions: “You stay here and rest. I’m fixing breakfast this morning.”

I let him.

I know the best way to serve my family today is by first strengthening my heart with grace.

I’ve been in this soul weary place many times. I don’t have all the answers.

But I know sitting with a few aptly spoken words is what I need now more than anything. I need Manna to be Bread and Life to me.

Scripture promises for when you have nothing left to give.

Prayer to God for Help

“Lord,” I pray, curled in the fetal position. “I’m not adequate for today. I have nothing left to give.”

Who is adequate for these things?” He asks me. “Your adequacy doesn’t come from yourself but from Me.”

“Lord, I don’t have the strength to serve these kids, this loving husband of mine, the people I’m called to.”

“You are to serve in the strength that I supply, my child… not from the lack of your own.”

“Lord, I’m not good. I’m lacking in love and I’m selfish and there is so much of ME in the way of YOU.”

8 Scriptures for when you have nothing left to give

“I’ve given you everything you need to live godly in Christ Jesus. Stop looking at yourself and simply trust that My blood has purchased the provision for you.”

“Lord, I will believe. I will believe it isn’t the one who works that sees the miraculous happen, but the one who believes.”

“Yes, my girl, trust. Because I will never leave you or forsake you. I will supply all your needs according to My riches. I am your righteousness. I am your strength. I am your bread and water. I am the Shepherd of your soul. I am the One who purchased your every breath with My own blood. I have redeemed you in every way! You can live working and striving, doubting and weak… or you can live trusting Me.”

“Lord, I believe.”

And within fifteen or so minutes, my soul is nourished and I’m ready to step out in trust. Ready to face the needs and demands of the day. Ready to walk by faith. Ready to be standing on the promises of God.

Not that I *feel* strong because I don’t. But my faith is restored that God will be there each step of my day, giving the provision as needed.

God’s provisions are just in time. They rarely come stockpiled and warehoused. They come moment by moment, as you need them…and they are only accessible by faith.

Scripture Promises for When You Have Nothing Left to Give

If your faith is shattered, your supply line is down and you’ve no way to access the provisions He’s providing. If your faith is weak today and you have nothing left to give, I encourage you to sit awhile with God’s Word. The Bible is full of God’s promises for your every need.

Below are 8 Scriptures for when you feel overwhelmed. These are powerful Bible verses that I return to these when I am empty.

>>> II Corinthians 3:5-6

>>> II Peter 1:3

>>> I Peter 4:11

>>> II Corinthians 9:10-11

>>> Philippians 4:19

>>> Galatians 3:5-6

>>> I Kings 17:1-16

>>> Isaiah 58:10-11

It’s the end of the day now and I am recording this here because I sense the Lord asking me to. I don’t know if anyone needs the encouragement here or not but if you do, may I close with a prayer for you today?

Lord, I pray for my sister (or brother) in Christ. I pray for her faith to remain strong and for Your Word to take root in her heart. I pray she would step out in trust today in whatever way You are asking. I pray for her heart to be nourished by Your grace even in this moment, and for her to understand the heights and depths of Your love. I ask for extra margin in her day today… just to sit awhile with Your Word and feed on Your promises. Thank You for Your blood that has purchased every provision we need. In Christ’s name, Amen!

  1. Yes, Christ provides all that we need. We just need to trust that’s true and believe it, daily reminding ourselves. I’m grateful that you took the time to share these encouraging words. Hugs to you Arabah.

  2. AJ, thank you for this encouragement…the Holy Spirit uses you often in my life. I find myself burnout again…I have nothing to give! All my reserves are gone…including my spiritual reserve. It’s the one I need to be filled before the other reserves can start to fill again. When prayer is hard and time so stretched, I have been wondering where to start. Your post described what I have been feeling and how to start to address it. Thank you! Even though we have never met, I love you so much, love that we are sisters in Christ and thankful to have you and your writings for encouragement along the way.

  3. AJ. You are Arabah Joy! The pourer of refreshment into hearts and minds so when you’re all done there’s nothing left. Then in the morning we find manna – manna from heaven for just what we need and just the right amount. Puts a whole new perspective on “Give us this day our daily bread.” My favorite verse when I am most weak: Psalm 18:1 “I love You, O LORD, my Strength.” May God bless you and keep you….. Yours as always in Him, Chris~

  4. I forgot to mention something important. An empty vessel is good because that’s the kind He fills. If there is anything in the cup (self, worries, troubles….) He can’t fill it. Anything, but Him, in the cup results in contamination and He will have nothing to do with that. An empty cup lifted up with pleasant in His sight. ~Chris~

  5. You have nailed it girl! Thank you so I can pass this on to those who feel just like you have but aren’t sure where to turn.

    Why is it we sometimes forget? We need to remember His Word and like a homing pigeon, fly there!

    Bless you Arabah Joy:0)

  13. I woke up this way this morning. Spent an hour with God before my kids got up, and felt refreshed and strengthened. We recently made a huge move to another state, and things have been a bit overwhelming. I found your blog a few weeks ago when I read Trust Without Borders, and find myself searching, reading, and soaking up everything I can. I come to this site everyday at least once, and I feel rested, loved, encouraged, and uplifted every time I come here. Thank you. I pray for you daily, and thank God for you and your blog.

  14. This came across my news feed today and I needed it. We’re in the middle of our fifth deployment, the fourth one in four years, and I’m so worn. I’m exhausted in ever way someone can be exhausted. I’m going to take your scripture list into my prayer closet with me.

  15. Love this, and I love the scriptures you listed. I don’t have all the answers either, only He does and there is STRENGTH behind His answers! Also loving your 40 days of promises on instagram, I’m using them in my journal along with a few other resources. Thank you!

  16. I stumbled onto this post via a pinterest link, which I clicked because a event in my life seemed to have sapped me of all strength to carry on. I have spent the last several days copying the verses into my journal and one of the young women I disciple needed it as well and I was able to share the verses with her.

    Thank you.

  17. Hey there! I loved this blog post so much that I spotlighted it on my blog’s Facebook page. ? It was a blessing to me and I hope and pray it will bless my readers just as much!

  18. I came home for lunch today….so discouraged with myself! Myself! I am a pastors wife/Childrens leader. We are 2 years at a church where i really dont wNt to be. It has been HARD when i thought we were going to get a bit of a brreather from “the hard stuff”. I seem to have developed a bitter spirit, a critical spirit and i am always so defensive. The least little thing hurts my feelings. I told the Lord that I do NOT want to be thisnway any longer. So…i came home for a bite of lunch, opened Pinterest and there found your artucle. Thank you for being obedient. I feel as if the Lord put his right in front of me today.

  19. Praise The Lord I found this. I am so desperate for Abba Daddys touch!! It has been a very hard 2+ years. So, so empty, too much fear when I had much faith. Pray for my unsaved husband, and our marriage. For our 13 year old son!

  20. Thank you so very much for your sensitive heart and love for God that you would share this! It’s interesting that I sent this to my friend without reading it and she ended up letting me I needed to read it so thank you! ?

  21. God bless you for this message. I thank you dearly. This speaks to me so loudly I am in tears. God has brought this message and prayer to me. And you are an angel.

  22. Yes- I know where you are and I write this reply with tears in my eyes. I have nothing left to say to my 20 year old son. His spirit is broken, he is vulnerable to the lies of the enemy. I have just laid him down at the foot of the cross and turned him over to God. It hurts so much to let go and know that nothing I can do or say or even pray will make a difference. I have been praying for him for 20 years and this is just another battle. i can’t win or even fight this battle . Any clever prayers I may try to say just make me cry now. My heart is broken over my son’s broken spirit. All I can give God now is my tears. I need God’s reassurance that he is listening. Thank you so much for your post. I am going to print it out and just read and reread it over the next few days. I have gone from a mighty prayer warrrior to a broken hearted mother. I need the Lord to put me back together again. Thank you so much for your post- it is going to be my lifeline for the next few days.
    Blessing and peace to you for your ministry!
    In Christ
