For those of us who are parents, or hope to be parents, I think it’s fair to say we all desire to raise a strong, connected family. That’s a wonderful goal, but as life gets busy with work, school, church, kids’ activities, we can often feel less connected.
We, as parents, need to be intentional in setting the course for our family – to be purposeful in the values we instill, the priorities we set, the atmosphere and tone we set in our home.
This week, Belinda shares a post on how to create a heart focused family vision statement. Her husband is a pilot and he offers the wisdom of many years of aviation:
…if he (the pilot) is a few degrees off, even for a short period of time, at the end of his flying time he would find himself nowhere near his expected destination.
Wow! If we apply that to our parenting, it reminds us just how diligent we need to be in planning for a purposeful life, in guiding our children in righteousness.
So how do we create a vision statement for our family? Belinda shares thought-provoking questions designed to guide you in planning your family’s statement. She also has a brainstorming worksheet to help you think through your values and priorities to plan and create your vision statement.
She also encourages us to involve our children in the process. Maybe your children are not old enough to understand the process, but as we create these statements that will define our family, we need to share the vision with our children. We need them to understand these are the priorities that will define our family, that will determine how we grow together.
I hope you’ll consider Belinda’s vision statement and use the resource she provides to help plan your own vision statement.
