It’s summer! We have unlimited free time, relaxing days, no set schedule, time for so much fun! Until we hear those two words that every mom comes to dread: “I’m bored!”
Two words – that’s all it takes to ruin a good mood, to start us down a path of frustration. Perhaps you even find yourself saying one of those famous lines, such as, “If you can’t find something to do, I’ll gladly give you something to do.” Isn’t there a better way to respond to summer boredom? Do you spend as much time as I do searching for things to do with the kids to ward off the boredom?
Abi happened to tackle the dilemma of summer boredom in the post she shared this week. She shares possible causes and responses to the summer boredom that our kids face. I’ll be honest – while I have certainly dealt with the frustration of summer boredom, I haven’t considered the possible causes in the way she describes them. Looking at them in light of the way she describes them has caused me rethink how I respond to my kids when they tell me they’re bored.
Her suggestions for how to respond to our kids open a door to a discussion that goes deeper than just temporarily solving the problem of the moment. We have the opportunity to speak into our child’s heart. Not only can we provide them something to do in the moment but we can help them begin to learn about their hearts and what’s behind the boredom.
Thank you, Abi, for this very timely message! Feel free to grab the button below and have a happy summer!
