Have you ever felt defeated? broken? overcome with grief or pain? We deal with these feelings because we’re human. This week, Alyssa shared a post that reminded us that there is a difference between these feelings and actually being defeated, being broken, or being overcome with grief. As we look back at Good Friday, it certainly seemed that Jesus was defeated at the cross. Those who were there that day must have felt that he was defeated.
As we reflect on the cross, what comes to mind? It’s probably the necessity of payment for our sin – and while that’s not wrong, it’s not the whole story. We’re reminded that the payment for our sin was the means to an end.
Alyssa’s post reminds us that Jesus defeated the power of sin, He defeated death, and He defeated the enemy.
While the cross was certainly about the payment for our sins, it was also about victory. We no longer have to life feeling defeated, broken, overcome with grief or pain. “Jesus was indeed victorious on the cross, and we get to share in His victory!”
